“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, But fools despise wisdom and instruction. For they will be a graceful ornament on your head, And chains about your neck. My son, if sinners entice you, Do not consent.”
Proverbs 1:7, 9-10 NKJV

“I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your terror comes, When your terror comes like a storm, And your destruction comes like a whirlwind, When distress and anguish come upon you. “Then they will call on me, but I will not answer; They will seek me diligently, but they will not find me. Because they hated knowledge And did not choose the fear of the Lord, They would have none of my counsel And despised my every rebuke. Therefore they shall eat the fruit of their own way, And be filled to the full with their own fancies. For the turning away of the simple will slay them, And the complacency of fools will destroy them; But whoever listens to me will dwell safely, And will be secure, without fear of evil.”” Proverbs 1:26-33 NKJV

Have you ever had that little voice within you telling you not to do what you are about to do? You know deep inside your thoughts are naughty but you do it anyway. Then, the consequences happen from your bad choice and you kick yourself for doing it. You pray for help and no help arrives. Some even get mad at God for not helping when they were warned not to proceed with the sin in the first place! God actually mocks you when you ignore Him and act foolishly. After all, you can’t say He didn’t warn you.
That little voice in your head is the Spirit convicting you! This is actually one (of many) ways you know you are saved. You have asked God to guide your life, to protect you from evil and to make you a new heart. So, He is guiding your conscience so you proceed in a Godly way. When you ignore Him and go your own way, He laughs at you when you have the gall to ask Him to stop the consequences of your bad choice(s). If you don’t want the consequences, stop the destructive behavior!
That’s why we all need to listen to that inner voice telling us not to be naughty. God is trying to protect us but for us to be protected, we need to listen! When we do foolish thing(s), we need to repent by praying on our mistake(s), accepting the consequence(s) and not repeating the foolish behavior. God’s Grace is immense and forgiveness abounds when we change.
God wants us to have knowledge and wisdom and guides us if we ask Him. When He guides, we need to adhere to His guidance because that is wise. When we choose to go our own way and ignore His guidance, we are showing pride and foolishness. For us to accept and love Him, listening to that inner voice is crucial.
Father,
Thank you for saving me and showing I am saved by implanting me wisdom and knowledge through Your word and The Holy Spirit. I know that Your inner voice is there to guide me to wisdom and righteousness. I need to heed it to avoid being prideful and foolish resulting in consequences. Father, please continue to implant wisdom and I promise to heed it. In Jesus’ precious name. Amen.
