Calling – Bible Study

“And Jesus, walking by the sea of Galilee, saw two brethren, Simon called Peter,
and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers. And he
saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men. And they
straightway left their nets and followed him. And going on from thence, he saw
other two brethren, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in a ship
with Zebedee their father, mending their nets; and he called them. And they
immediately left the ship and their father, and followed him.”
Matthew 4:18-22 KJV

Can you imagine fishing off of Honolulu Harbor and some dude rolls up saying,
“follow me” and you drop what you are doing and follow? I guess when God
calls you, you drop everything and follow.

It’s funny how some say they have a calling in life but rarely think in terms of
having a project called. I know many brothers and sisters move from place to
place, person to person, job to job, and situation to situation. The comment I
regularly hear is “it’s time to move on.” I have switched streams many times too
depending on what drives me or my current calling. I usually have two or more
project callings happening at once. Some are short-term, some medium, and the
odd one long-term. All of them have been wonderful experiences. All of them
are to serve God in whatever capacity He deems.

What are your callings? Are you ready to push the envelope if you get an urge or
call? Listen to your Spirit. You will be urged to do something. The calling can
be one incident all the way to lifetime commitments. It’s actually fun to
receive callings because it’s the situation that drives it. God just presents the
situation before you and asks you to help. Yes, you can say no but who wants to
say no to their Maker?
